Lucca & Pisa

Lucca & Pisa

Geographically close but worlds apart, the two major Tuscan cities have been rivals for centuries and, somehow, still are nowadays even though in a completely peaceful way. Pisa: the almighty marine power that ruled over the Mediterranean Sea for centuries and built spectacular monuments to celebrate its power. And Lucca: the charming and proud city that was never conquered by Florence and where Elisa Bonaparte, Napoleon’s sister, lived her short princess dream among these huge walls. Let’s discover together where your heart stays...

HIGHLIGHTS

Full Description of the tour

The day starts with a drive through Tuscany, East to West, where we will pull right up Pisa’s “Piazza dei Miracoli” the location of the Cathedral (Duomo), Baptistery and famous leaning bell tower.

Here you will have time to walk around this unique monumental area, take pictures, climb the leaning tower and/or visiting the inside of other buildings such as the Baptistry, the Monumental Cemetery or the Cathedral. Let me know if you want to climb the Leaning tower and I will help you in securing your tickets.*

After the brief visit to Pisa, we will then drive to Lucca, where you will have lunch in a local restaurant and then have more free time for exploring one of the most historically important and rich cities of Tuscany. Completely surrounded by massive and thick city walls, Lucca is the birthplace of the great Italian composer Giacomo Puccini and it offers a wide variety of nice churches and monuments to visit. One of the most famous sights is the Guinigi tower, a medieval tower which can be immediately recognized by the presence of three oak trees at its very top. In Lucca, if you are interested, you could also visit the town center by renting a bike and cycling all around the city and on top of the city walls.

* Please note that while the Cathedral and the Baptistry are easily accessible even for last-minute visits, climbing the Leaning Tower requires a reservation with a specific time slot. Last minute requests may result in tickets unavailability.
