HIGHLIGHTS

Full Description of the tour

Welcome to Tuscany my dear wine lovers,

A land of great artists and ancient civilizations, a land of rolling hills and unforgettable views but, above all, a land of great wines and excellent food products. Here we love spending our free time relaxing around the table, chatting with our friends while enjoying a good glass of wine and some appetizers. There is no moment of a day that is not ideal for some wine. Besides breakfast, it is always time for sipping some wine, maybe with a tasty piece of pecorino cheese or a prosciutto sandwich. It could be a quick snack or a full lunch but, trust me,  wine will always be there on the table to go with our food and start the party.

With 11 formally recognised DOCG wine regions, Tuscany is undoubtedly a land of wines and wine has always been rooted in Tuscan culture. Just to give you an idea, Giovanni Boccaccio, famous XIV century writer and father of the Italian language, described Heaven on Earth as a land of grated parmesan cheese mountains and white wine rivers made of Vernaccia from San Gimignano. What an appealing idea of Paradise, isn’t it?!

Come then with me on a journey through the breathtaking Tuscan countryside and discover its prestigious wines and the stories of the winemakers who have been working on these lands for generations. We will explore different wine regions and compare their wines while pairing everything with tasty, local foods. Chianti, Supertuscans and Chianti Classico wines are just waiting for you..

In the morning, you will learn more about one of the undisputed protagonist of Tuscan cuisine: olive oil. Doubtless, olive oil can be considered the key ingredient of any “successful” Tuscan dish and the only Tuscan product without which, at least in my humble opinion, life would be so “miserable”. I will introduce you both the traditional olive oil production processes and the latest food technologies aimed to preserve olive oil taste and flavours as it was just pressed. I will tell you more about how to recognize good, authentic extra virgin olive oils while tasting and also how to avoid cheap imitations at the grocery stores.

Lunch will be at your preference between a farm/winery or a local restaurant in the area. Of course, as a local gourmand, I am always willing to share with you my best suggestions on food and wine. After lunch, on the way to my enchanting hometown of Certaldo, we will enjoy a scenic drive through one of the most stunning parts of the Tuscan countryside while getting to know more about the proud, lost town of Semifonte. We will then have time for a stroll around the fascinating medieval town center of Certaldo, an authentic Tuscan hamlet that “seems frozen in time”.
